This program prepares health professionals for positions in community/public health. A community health educator might be employed at a health department, service organization, volunteer agency, state or federal health agency, or a work place. The goal is to improve the health of their clients/employees and to lower health care expenditures. The health educator is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs. In addition to these responsibilities, the health educator is expected to coordinate health programs, as they communicate effectively and serve as a resource in the community. A Bachelor of Science in Health will be awarded to those students completing the prescribed course of study and officially applying for degree conferral. After the completion of the degree requirements, students are eligible to sit for the National Certified Health Specialist (CHES) examination.
