From protecting wilderness areas to creating community recreation centers, parks, recreation and tourism graduates work to provide exciting green open spaces for all Americans. Tourism and Recreation is not only one of Ohio?s leading industries but also a leading industry in the US and across the globe. The Parks, Recreation and Tourism major prepares students for a career working in the private, public or not for profit sector in a variety of careers related to recreation. Students enrolled in the School of Environment and Natural Resources Parks, Recreation and Tourism program can specialize in one of six areas: Environmental Education and Interpretation; Community Recreation Leadership and Management; Eco-tourism and Adventure Program Planning; and Park and Recreation Law Enforcement. Co-Curricular Opportunities Training or technical skills are an important part of a parks and recreation specialists job and the School offers several opportunities to obtain certifications ranging from national association for interpretation in environmental education to wildland firefighting, law enforcement academy training and more. The School of Environment and Natural Resources is administratively part of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Collectively, there are over 35 student organizations that are directly related to majors within this area. Additionally, students may find other unique opportunities in the Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Learning Community housed in Norton House. There students will live with others who share the same interests and majors where they will get an opportunity to interact with faculty and staff, participate in structured study groups, in-hall academic advising and travel around Ohio and the U.S. on special trips. The School of Environment and Natural Resources Career Services office assists students with one on one counseling to identify job opportunities, assist in preparing cover letters and resumes, and preparing for interviews. They offer workshops, conduct career fairs and help students all along the way to make sure they are building a successful resume.
