PROGRAM OVERVIEW Theology is an attempt to come to an intellectually honest understanding of one?s faith relationship with God. Theology holds a unique place among the academic disciplines at Ohio Dominican University as it is at the core of that which is distinctly Dominican, namely ?to contemplate truth and to share with others the fruits of this contemplation.? Rooted within the context of the Roman Catholic tradition, the study of theology at ODU includes the subjects of Scripture, the Trinity, Church, Spirituality, Sacraments, History of Christianity and Social Justice. The Theology program at ODU gives flesh to the university?s conviction that ?truth can be found...in a special way in religious faith and theological reflection on faith.? For eight centuries Dominicans have sought to assist men and women in their pursuit of justice and freedom by proclaiming truth. Since truth is singular and foundational as well as plural and dynamic, Ohio Dominican strives to maintain a balanced approach. By careful attention to the sources of the Catholic tradition, our students develop skills for responsible reflection on the faith of their worship community. Our students study Theology with the Dominican commitment to search for Truth wherever it may be found, especially in contemplation about the human relationship with God. This contemplation includes the study of Philosophy and History, two subject areas included in the core curriculum. CAREER POSSIBILITIES In addition to an abundance of personal enrichment, graduates leave with an increased readiness to pursue a number of professional ministerial or educational opportunities?pastoral ministry positions, religious education, campus ministry, further academic studies or seminary studies. Some students choose to continue their studies in graduate schools, including pursuing Ohio Dominican?s Master of Arts in Theology degree .
