To become a certified journey-level HVAC service technician you must complete 8000 hours of on-the-job training with an employer and 810 hours of related classroom instruction at the Ogden-Weber ATC. Students who complete the program will receive local, state and industry certification that is recognized throughout the United States. Although an apprenticeship requires you to have an employer sponsor, you may begin this program without an employer sponsor. As soon as you are employed in the HVAC industry, the Office of Apprenticeship will work with your employer to complete the application so they can become an apprentice sponsor. The process is free and very simple. As an HVAC/R Service Technician Apprentice, you will be installing, diagnosing, and repairing temperature control systems including residential/commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioners, refrigerators, and other equipment. You will also read wiring schematics and analyzing building control and air distribution equipment. The approximate completion time for the HVAC/R Service Technician Apprentice Related Instruction Certificate is 810 hours of classroom training on the College campus and 8,000 hours of On-the-Job Training.
