Medical Skills and Related Health Careers from Ocean County Vocational - Technical School is a Campus Certificate Health Administration degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. The first year provides an exploration of several a student?s health career options. The first year curriculum covers anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and key concepts in health care such as professionalism and ethics. Basic patient care skills such as body mechanics, bed making, transferring patients, and personal care including feeding, bathing, and oral care, are covered. A clinical experience is provided at a long-term care facility. The second year is geared toward preparing the student to become a Certified Nurse Assistant. The curriculum and clinical experiences are mandated by the State Department of Health and Senior Services . Upon successful completion of the 90 hour program, the student may take the two-part state exam to earn their certification as a Nurse Aide and may qualify for a work-study program offered through OCVTS. The Certified Nurse Aide curriculum is a good foundation to help prepare students for a career path in Nursing. Other components of the class include: membership in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), a student organization emphasizing professionalism and leadership skills for students who are pursuing a health career. In addition, students may be eligible to earn several college credits from UMDNJ after passing the qualifying examinations.
