The Collins Career Center Cosmetology Program provides education and skills training to students desiring a position in the cosmetology field. The goal of the Cosmetology Program is to prepare students to pass the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology licensure examination. Students will be eligible to sit for this exam upon successful completion of the program. Cosmetology is the art and science of beautifying hair, skin, and nails. Cosmetologists provide beauty services, such as shampooing, cutting, coloring, and styling hair. Additionally, cosmetologists may train to give manicures, pedicures, scalp and facial treatments; provide skin and makeup analysis; and clean and style wigs and hairpieces. The Cosmetology Program at Collins Career Center provides a curriculum, which includes theory, skills, and salon ethics required to become a licensed cosmetologist. Students practice techniques in a practical work-supervised salon setting including: hair cutting and styling, nail care including manicures and pedicures, chemical and skin care services. By building upon a foundation of cosmetology theory, students will gain valuable hands-on experience in beauty culture practice. The Cosmetology Certificate options provide the student with the knowledge and basic skills required to become a licensed cosmetologist.
