PROGRAM OUTCOMES Upon the successful completion of all Health Office Information Specialist Certificate program requirements, graduates will: 1. Read, understand and prepare standard types of medical communications; 2. Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal and human relations skills; 3. Understand and use the medical terminology required in speed dictation of medical correspondence, preparing forms, documents, and transcribed material; 4. Employ appropriate medical office procedures; 5. Understand and perform office accounting tasks; 6. Possess appropriate skills in the following software applications: operating system, word processing, spreadsheet and other software appropriate for the office environment; 7. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of ICD-9, CPT coding and computerized billing in entering and/or processing medical insurance claims; 8. Demonstrate speed and accuracy in keyboarding skills; 9. Understand the importance of confidentiality in dealingwith medical insurance issues; 10. Have gained appropriate cooperative education experience in the field.
