This is done by first educating the student in the theory of information systems then during the final year a project to analyze, design, develop and implement a complete software system for a real customer is done. The MIS program of study is designed to prepare students for one of the most rapidly expanding professions in the business world. MIS majors differ from computer science majors in emphasizing applications of computer systems for business over their development and analysis. The applications are focused on complex business needs in organizations. Northwood\\\\\\\'s MIS chair and an advisory board of local business persons continually assess and rebuild the MIS program to ensure that the program is up-to-date with current trends in the business. MIS graduates will be able to: Create business applications in an event-driven programming language (such as the current version of Visual Basic.NET or C#.NET) including the development of user interfaces, use of controls, writing/debugging code, and the creation of interactive menus. Apply data modeling techniques (such as normalization and ER diagramming) to create a database model. Implement a database model in a relational database management system (such as SQL or Access) including the creation of tables, establishing referential integrity constraints, loading data, creating views, and producing forms and reports using database data. Select and apply appropriate systems analysis and design techniques to create a system design for a business process.
