Library and Information Services from Northeast Community College is a Campus Associate Librarian degree that prepares you for a Education career. Program Information As libraries increasingly use technologies such as CD-ROM, the Internet, virtual libraries, and automated databases, the duties of library and information services specialists will expand and evolve accordingly. LIS specialists assist with customizing databases and instruct patrons in how to use computer systems to access data. These specialists work in large libraries as well as in rural areas. The Library and Information Services program will provide information about services requiring technical skills in such vital areas as circulation of materials, acquisition, and processing of all types of materials. The program\\\'s courses focus particularly on information resources and management of a small library . This Associate of Arts degree is offered jointly by Central Community College and Northeast Community College in cooperation with the Nebraska Library Commission and University of Nebraska at Omaha. Central Community College also offers a certificate program in Library and Information Services. The library courses in the certificate program are designed to provide the skills necessary for certification as a public librarian in Nebraska, with an emphasis on rural needs. The A.A. degree option provides an opportunity for students to transfer to the University of Nebraska at Omaha for completion of a baccalaureate degree if they choose.
