Psychology Program Mission The Department of Psychology & Sociology is responsible for establishing the policies, goals, assessment, and improvement of all academic programs in the disciplines of Psychology, Sociology, & Counseling. These activities are performed in a manner that exhibits the highest standards of the profession and that coincides with and implements the mission of the University and the policy directions of the Board of Regents. The Department\\\'s academic programs are designed to provide a level of education in both the core curriculum and in the major areas of study which prepare students for more advanced study and for employment. Its educational programs are structured to address community and professional needs. Faculty instruction is conducted to the highest degree of excellence consistent with current professional standards and is supported by services which facilitate this level of instruction. Instructor skills and expertise are regularly enhanced through faculty development activities. Departmental faculty are expected to engage in on-going scholarship and community service activities. Educational equipment and physical resources are improved in light of changing external and internal demands. Graduating majors are required to demonstrate their skills in oral and written communication in an analytic fashion and to demonstrate competence in their major field.
