The program, initially developed as a joint degree with Rutgers University, is currently supported by an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grant. The Department of Computer and Information Science of the NJIT College of Science and Liberal Arts is responsible for all academic aspects of the degree program. The Office of Distance Learning of the NJIT Division of Continuing Professional Education is responsible for orchestrating the degree program in a distance delivery format which brings the campus to the student by means of television and computers.
