The study of Biology contributes to an understanding of living things from the molecular to the community level. A Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science prepares the student for careers in industrial, governmental, clinical, and academic settings which require biological expertise. The degree also serves as preparation for graduate study and medical careers. The science faculty in the Division of Arts and Sciences provides pre-medical advisement for students who are contemplating a career in medicine as well as information pertaining to Neumann University\\\'s Articulation Agreements with The New York College of Chiropractic Medicine in Seneca Falls, NY and the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York, NY. Preparation for Secondary Teacher Certification in Biology and General Science, and certification eligibility for Clinical Laboratory Science can also be achieved through this major. Students majoring in Biological Science may also choose a sequence of Biology/Clinical Laboratory Science courses to be eligible to write to appropriate certifying agencies requesting certification in one of three clinical areas: clinical biochemistry, clinical hematology, or clinical microbiology. Small class size and hands-on experiential learning make the Biology program at Neumann University unique. Almost all of the biology courses include laboratories. Opportunities for independent research on campus are available. In addition, Biological Science majors are required to participate in off-campus research or applied science during the senior year through participation in the University\\\'s Cooperative Education Program. This research experience provides students with the opportunity to apply, in an occupational setting, the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom. Participating institutions have included Smith Kline Bio-Science Laboratories, Pennsylvania State Police -Lima Regional Crime Labs, Philadelphia Zoological Society, Crozer-Chester Medical Center, the Academy of Natural Sciences, Raytheon Environmental Services, and the Camden Aquarium.
