Career Opportunities: Graduates of this major, have the educational preparation to be successful in horticulture. Program Outcomes for Horticulture Systems: 1. Horticulture Systems students will be able to demonstrate the skills and academic background needed to be successful in an above-entry level nursery/landscape/sports turf position. 2. Horticulture Systems students will develop and demonstrate effective written, computer, and oral communications skills as related to the field of horticulture. 3. Horticulture Systems students will be able to perform the technical and mechanical skills necessary to be a successful horticulturist. 4. Horticulture Systems students will be able to perform essential plant propagation/ establishment skills. 5. Horticulture Systems students will be able to successfully identify pests and problems and be able to manage decisions based on their observations. 6. Upon completion of the Sports Turf Management Option, students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the competencies outlined by the Sports Turf Management Association and/or the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, while students completing the Landscape/Nursery Option will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the competencies outlined by the Nebraska Nursery and Landscape Association.
