The Area in Chemistry program is a thorough program designed for students planning careers in engineering and the chemical industry, or for those who plan to pursue graduate study following the baccalaureate degree . Students in the area program are not required to complete a minor course of study. Upon completion of this program, graduates are certified as professional chemists and are eligible for full membership in the American Chemical Society. The Major in Chemistry program is recommended for students planning careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, secondary education, toxicology, or in programs where requirements make it difficult to include all the courses needed for an area in chemistry . The major in chemistry is coupled with a minor in a discipline appropriate to the career interests of the student. A major in chemistry with emphasis on biochemistry is also offered.
