Radiologic Technology is a high-tech health services career for students who are interested in providing direct patient care and working as part of a healthcare team. Although no prior experience is necessary to apply for this program, students must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, strong problem-solving skills, honesty, dependability and adaptability. The radiologic technology program develops competence in the knowledge and skills required for radiologic imaging. The integrated curriculum, designed to be completed in two years on a full-time basis, includes both didactic and clinical education components. Why MSU? Great hands-on experience. MSU has an advantage over other programs in that the university has an energized radiologic technology lab on campus. In this lab, students can practice and perform procedures on a mannequin and then process the images in our darkroom. Active student organization. The Student Radiologic Technology Association (SRTA) conducts fund-raising during the year to finance their attendance at WVSRT annual conference, a state-wide radiologic technology conference held during the fall semester of the second year. The class participates in a ?Student-Bowl? at the conference, competing with students from other Radiologic Technology Programs throughout the state. Career Opportunities A nationwide shortage of healthcare workers is expected to continue through the foreseeable future. Radiologic technology graduates can work in rural or urban areas in varied settings, including hospitals, doctors? offices, and free-standing imaging clinics. Some graduates may choose employment as a contract or travel technologist, and work at various locations throughout the world. The MSU Radiologic Technology program faculty encourages graduates to practice the concept of life long learning by continuing their education, whether it be in a formal or informal manner. Graduates have opportunities for additional on-the-job training in other modalities such as CT, MRI, and Special Procedures. Program Mission The mission of the Mountain State University Radiologic Technology program is to educate students to be marketable in various aspects of radiographic imaging, while providing the healthcare community with professional, compassionate and competent Radiologic Technologists.
