Psychology Developmental Psychology - Mount Ida College

Psychology Developmental Psychology from Mount Ida College is a Campus Bachelor Educational Psychology degree that prepares you for a Psychology career. Psychology majors choose from five tracks to best suit their personal interests and professional goals. Each track is designed to help students meet entry-level career requirements and/or pursue advanced degrees in their chosen subfields. The Developmental Track provides students with the opportunity to focus on a particular cohort or the concept of human development in more depth. Alternatively, students may sample different stages for more breadth of exploration. This degree track increases the possibility of specialization with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly or in the various aspects of development throughout the entire lifespan. Note that courses with a special focus on childhood are labeled (C), on adolescence are labeled (A), and on adulthood and aging are labeled (AA). Career and Graduate Study Options Because the main focus is on developmental issues, it prepares students for work in a variety of entry level jobs such as an advocate for children, parents, or the elderly; early intervention specialist; or elder care activity coordinator. They may work for social service agencies, park and recreation departments, and a variety of educational settings. Students may pursue graduate study that further defines work or research with children, adolescents, adults; or a focus area that considers the whole lifespan, whether through research, administration, or practice. Learning Objectives In addition to the All College Curriculum skills and perspective, students who successfully complete this program will be able to: Differentiate between normal and disrupted physiological, cognitive, social, and emotional development throughout the lifespan; Critically examine the roles and interplay of heredity and environment in human development; Assess influences of culture, rites of passage, and societal demands on development; Apply specific developmental constructs to the understanding of the particular needs of populations studied.
