Criminal Justice from Mount Ida College is a Campus Bachelor Criminal Justice degree that prepares you for a Legal career. The Bachelor of Science program is intended to provide the student with a broad-based liberal exposure to the multi-faceted field of Criminal Justice . In addition to close examination of the traditional core areas of Policing, the Courts, Corrections, and Juvenile Justice, the Program offers the student an interdisciplinary approach to criminal justice which involves required courses in such diverse fields as Psychology, Sociology, Literature and the Arts, Ethics, Mediation, and Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences. The Program also offers two internships, in the junior and senior years, which afford the student real-world experience with a law enforcement or other governmental protective agency. These internship experiences often provide meaningful job opportunities after graduation. Career and Graduate Study Options Students with a degree in Criminal Justice are presented with a remarkably broad spectrum of employment and career opportunities upon graduation. Locally, students may pursue careers in Municipal Law Enforcement, Campus Police, Housing Authority agencies, Constable and Transit Police departments. Statewide, there are opportunities with the Highway Patrol, State Police, Fish and Wildlife Agencies, State Bureaus of Investigations, and Port authorities. At the federal level, criminal justice graduates may choose to pursue careers with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Marshall?s Service, or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, among others. Students with a degree in Criminal Justice may also pursue graduate school, in the areas of Criminal Justice , Social Work, Forensics, or Law. Learning Objectives In addition to the All College Curriculum skills and perspective, students who successfully complete this program will have: A solid knowledge in the core areas of criminal justice, as identified by ACJS: criminal justice and juvenile justice processes; criminology; law enforcement; law adjudication; and corrections; An understanding of research methodology used in the field; An ability to think critically and express their thoughts effectively in oral and written form; Ethical behavior in applying knowledge to related problems and changing fact situations; An understanding and appreciation of various career paths and options available to them upon graduation from the program.
