Emergency Management & Planning from Montgomery County Community College - Central Campus - Blue Bell PA is a Campus Associate Emergency Management degree that prepares you for a Human Services career. Purpose The Emergency Management & Planning (EMP) Program is designed to serve as a competency-based education and training program for emergency services professionals and others involved with public and private entities that are responsible for public safety and security. The Program is designed to complement allied degree and certificate programs in criminal justice, municipal police training, homeland security, fire science, emergency medical response, and hazardous materials handling and event response. The Program stresses the overarching administrative, managerial, planning and leadership skills that are necessary to facilitate intergovernmental and inter-agency cooperation and coordination, along with developing a firm understanding of tactical response theory and practice. Accordingly, the Program places considerable emphasis on developing an understanding of government, public agencies, and public policy management. The Program is designed to foster a high level of knowledge and competency for persons who are already engaged in emergency response and preparedness fields, or who are interested in pursuing professional careers in these fields. The Program was designed to adhere closely to the EMP-Homeland Security curriculum developed by the Collegiate Consortium for Workforce & Economic Development (CCWED) under the auspices of the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Administration (PEMA). The Program is designed to facilitate transfer and articulation into corresponding 4-year baccalaureate programs also participating in the CCWED Homeland Security Program. Students interesting in pursuing a transfer track are advised to meet with the Director of Criminal Justice Studies & Fire Science to discuss their academic and career plan. Program Objectives A graduate should be able to: demonstrate an understanding of, and differentiate between \\\"emergency planning\\\" and \\\"emergency management; demonstrate an understanding of the regulatory and intergovernmental framework of emergency management and planning; demonstrate teamwork, team-building, and leadership skills in the context of emergency management and planning; demonstrate an understanding of how planning affects and facilitates preparedness; show a capability of working in an interactive program to establish a planning process for companies or municipalities; demonstrate an understanding of, and differentiate between \\\"Incident Command\\\" and \\\"Unified Command\\\"; demonstrate learned knowledge of the differentiated functions and roles of the various players within the emergency management system in the context of a realistic simulation exercise; demonstrate knowledge of how to identify, evaluate, and respond to a wide range of specific hazardous conditions and disasters; demonstrate an ability to develop a plan of action to deal with, mitigate, and remediate specific hazards; demonstrate an ability to develop site safety plans; demonstrate a working knowledge of terrorism, the strategies, tactics, and aims of terrorists; and demonstrate an ability to apply a learned EMP skill-set to terrorist incidents.
