Didactic Program in Dietetics is a term used by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) to describe the program approved under the Standards of Education as meeting academic requirements leading to at least a Bachelor\\\'s degree . CADE is the accreditation body of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). The dietetics option at Montana State University-Bozeman has been granted initial accreditation as a Didactic Program in Dietetics by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation and the United States Department of Education, 120 Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, (312) 899-0040, x. 5400. A graduate will attain a verification statement upon completing the CADE-approved dietetics program curriculum in addition to a minimum of a \\\"C\\\" or better in each required program course at graduation. A graduate is then eligible to apply for a CADE-accredited supervised practice/dietetic internship or other post-baccalaureate experience. Upon completion of the post-graduate dietetic internship, students are eligible to take the national registration exam for dietitians. Once the individual has passed the exam, the individual is then a \\\"registered dietitian.\\\" The dietetics option has a strong foundation in food and nutrition, food service management, and science components. Registered dietitians may find employment in health care facilities; industrial, school, and university food services; community nutrition services; private practice; sales for food service or health products; and other related fields. Mission Statement The mission of the Montana State University Dietetics Program is to prepare graduates to successfully enter a CADE-accredited supervised practice/dietetic internship program, graduate school or a variety of employment opportunities related to food and nutrition. Goals Goal 1 To develop and offer an undergraduate dietetics curriculum that attracts students to the dietetics profession and stimulates continuity in the program which allows students to accomplish their goal. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, persistence and completion rates for the Dietetics Program will meet or exceed available university wide data. (Persistence is defined as the number of students that declare the Food and Nutrition option from one semester to the next, whereas completion rates are the number of students that graduate.) Outcome: Over a 5-year period, 85% of students enrolled continually (without a break in attendance) in the professional courses in the third year of a bachelor-level DPD are expected to complete program/degree requirements within 150% of the time planned for completion (3 years). Goal 2 To prepare students to meet the foundation, knowledge, skills and competency requirements for Didactic Programs in Dietetics as defined by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, 60% of DPD graduates will apply to supervised practice programs the academic year they complete the program. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, the supervised practice program placement (match) rate will exceed 80% for the students who apply the academic year they complete the program. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, on the 1 year post graduation survey, 80% of the MSU Dietetics Program graduates accepted into an internship who respond to the survey, will rate the quality of their education and on how well prepared they were for a supervised practice at least a 3 on a scale of 1-4. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, 80% of the supervised practice directors completing surveys will rate the quality of the MSU Dietetics Program graduates preparedness for a supervised practice at least a 3 on a scale of 1-4. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, graduates of the DPD will achieve a first time pass rate of 80% or higher on the RD exam. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, on the 1-year post-graduation survey, 80% of the MSU Dietetics Program graduates accepted into graduate school who respond to the survey, will rate the quality of their education and on how well prepared they were for graduate school at least a 3 on a scale of 1-4. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, on the 1-year post-graduation survey, 80% of the MSU Dietetics Program graduates who do not apply or are not accepted to an internship or graduate school who respond to the survey, will rate the quality of their education and on how well prepared they were for their current employment at least a 3 on a scale of 1-4. Goal 3 To instill in graduates a commitment to community service. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, 75% of senior level students at their exit survey and interview will report being involved in one or more community service activities independently or as part of the student dietetic association. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, 100% of faculty RDs will indicate that they participate in one or more community service activities. Outcome: Over a 5-year period, 75% of graduates responding to the alumni survey will report becoming involved in their communities through volunteer activities related to health enhancement or wellness.
