MWSU Biology Department The mission of the Biology Department is to provide a collaborative learning environment in which students and faculty apply their biological exploration and discovery experiences as professionals and informed citizens. To this end, the Biology Department stresses investigative laboratories throughout the curriculum and student/faculty research as a significant part of its undergraduate program. Our biology programs offer students excellent background and training to enter fields such as the life sciences industry, wildlife conservation and management, the health professions and science teaching. The Biology Department degree programs also offers excellent preparation for graduate school and professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, optometry, and other health related fields. The Biology Department has access to classrooms with modern instructional technology. Its teaching and research laboratories are equipped for conducting experiments in molecular cloning, DNA amplification, DNA sequencing, microarray technology, global positioning systems (GPS), geographic information systems (GIS), and radio-telemetry technology. In addition, the Biology Department has a 180-acre campus natural area called the Otoe Creek Nature Area. A majority of students who major in biology with a health science emphasis are pursuing one of our pre-professional tracks.
