Clinical Psychology from Mississippi State University is a Campus Master Clinical Psychology degree that prepares you for a Psychology career. The clinical psychology master\\\'s concentration was the eighth program nationally to receive the full accreditation of the Master in Psychology Accreditation Council (MPAC), and we believe we have one of the top clinical master\\\'s programs in the country. Our clinical program is designed to prepare students for employment in master\\\'s-level psychology positions, as well as for advanced training for a Ph.D. program. Roughly half of our graduates work in the profession after graduation, and the other half are accepted into doctoral programs in clinical psychology or in related areas. Our curriculum stresses the integration of science and practice. Upon graduation, our students have strong clinical skills, as well as a solid grasp of research design, methodology, and current research literature. Toward these ends, students take a variety of clinical and assessment courses. Clinical students also complete two 300-hour field training experiences in a range of mental health settings, including state-operated mental facilities, community mental health centers, psychiatric units of private hospitals, and university-based student counseling centers. These practicum experiences help students learn to apply classroom knowledge to the real-world service needs of the public. Research activities and course work help to make our students more competitive for doctoral programs. To accomplish this goal, students are encouraged to become involved in faculty research and are required to take a graduate-level statistics course and a graduate-level research design and methodology course. As a capstone experience to their training, clinical students are required to complete a thesis. Here students exercise their knowledge of research methodology in the analysis of a selected topic in the research literature. Doctoral programs favor students with a rigorous, research-based terminal master\\\'s degree , and our graduates\\\' continuing success in obtaining entry to competitive clinical doctoral programs is the best testament to the quality of our program.
