Theatre from Millsaps College is a Campus Bachelor Theatre degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. At Millsaps College we investigate the power of live theatre to create imaginary worlds that entertain but also provide us with the ability to see ourselves in relationship to others. Our program embraces theatre as a humanizing force that draws strangers together, challenges stereotypes, builds community, cultivates compassion, and provides perspective. We celebrate the importance of each individual and create an environment that embraces inclusion, adventure, risk, and respect for how integral each function is to the overall production process and performance event. Our curriculum offers a fully integrated course of study leading to a major or minor in theatre . Mission Statement The Mission of the Department of Theatre at Millsaps College is to: Cultivate an environment that celebrates the breadth of our humanity, fosters open inquiry, and develops artistic excellence; Train ensemble-based theatre artists in a liberal arts framework; Enhance the educational, social, and cultural experience of our region through bold staging of works that span across cultures and ages; Utilize a not-for-profit academic producing model to promote student leadership and provide practical experience in arts related professions. Integrated Center for Academic Theatre At the core of all theatrical educational programs is the interlacing of classroom exploration with the technical application of production. However, theatre departments often remain self-contained as producing organizations when in fact, to fully function and thrive, nonprofit theatrical organizations utilize the expertise of professionals in other fields such as law, accounting, politics, and marketing. In both large and small academic environments, the potential of interdisciplinary exploration, collaborative mentoring, and fully integrating theatre as a means to prepare future arts leaders and educate across disciplines remains unexplored. At Millsaps College we pursue precisely this type of interdisciplinary, collaborative, and integrated program with the Integrated Center for Academic Theatre (ICAT).
