Overview Since its founding, Midland Lutheran College has prepared liberal arts students for teaching careers in both public and private schools. Teacher Education Department faculty work in partnership with the campus community and area schools to provide students with academic course work and field-based experiences in elementary, early childhood, and secondary settings. The program offers the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with a major in teacher education. The MLC Teacher Education Program\\\'s philosophical model is \\\"Teacher as Active and Reflective Facilitator.\\\" This philosophical model shapes program content and delivery and produces a graduate who demonstrates skills as: A Planner of Effective Instruction who: Uses multiple tools to assess learner needs and progress Develops lessons that meet curriculum goals and state and national standards Utilizes active learning and a variety of instructional approaches to make subject matter meaningful to students A Builder of Learning Communities who: Recognizes how student development, behavior, and motivation may impact learning Demonstrates a variety of strategies for managing the classroom Creates a classroom environment that meets diverse student needs and promotes positive social interaction A Model of Professional Development who: Uses effective communication techniques to foster relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the local community Demonstrates a master of subject matter content while promoting the education of the mind, body, and spirit Seeks out life-long opportunities to grow professionally and reflectively practice the art of teaching Midland Lutheran College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The MLC Teacher Education Program is approved by the Nebraska Department of Education.
