School counselors assist students and their families as well as other educators. Facilitating teamwork, counseling , teaching coping skills and dealing with developmental problems are just some of the issues these professionals deal with on a daily basis. Our program engages students on a deep level so they can analyze the cultural, ethical, economic, legal, and political factors surrounding such issues as diversity, equity, and excellence in terms of student learning. Courses in school counseling do more than just teach a theory, they help students apply the practice and as a result impact their students' lives for the better. During Practicum and Internship students need to be available 2 or 3 days a week during the school day to complete their hours. Students are able to maintian a job only if it is flexible to allow time at the schools . Students who are certified teachers are required to complete a parallel pathway design that includes 2 additional 3 credit hour field experience classess.
