About the Union Pacific Railroad A graduate who successfully completes the Railroad Operations tracts along with the rest of the AAS degree requirements in Diesel Technology with a Railroad Operations Emphasis and is later hired as an Apprentice Diesel Electrician, the Union Pacific will reimburse the student for half of 85 percent of tuition (not to include fees, tools and uniform expenses) after 90 days of service. Once the employee has 18 months of service, Union Pacific will then reimburse the remaining half of the 85 percent tuition. At this point, the employee is then qualified as a Journeyperson and will receive a pay raise.
