Religious and Theological Studies from Merrimack College is a Campus Bachelor Religious Studies degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. Religious and theological studies at Merrimack College investigate the meaning and purpose of life through a study of Christianity and other religious traditions. As a department at a Catholic and Augustinian institution of higher education, we ensure that students encounter the richness of the Catholic spiritual, intellectual, and ecclesial tradition in the course of their study, and that they are introduced to the life, thought and influence of Saint Augustine. We offer a comprehensive program in the academic study of religion that not only investigates many aspects of Christianity but also provides opportunities for the study of other religions. All students at Merrimack College are required to pass either: A.Two 2-credit courses: ?Introduction to Theology? (RTS1000) plus one introductory religious studies course at the 1500 level or B. ?Introduction to Religious and Theological Studies? (RTS 1001?4 credits) Students are also required to pass at least one additional course in the Department before graduation. Note that the introductory courses are a prerequisite for all other courses in the department. The introductory courses are given numbers at the 1000 level because they are the most basic in our department and are appropriate for first year students. All other courses are given numbers in the 2000, 3000, and 4000 range. These numbers are intended to indicate the progressively more difficult nature of the courses. Other opportunities include a major in religious studies, a major in theological studies, a minor program in religious and theological studies, an internship program, and participation in the National Honor Society for Religious Studies and Theology (Theta Alpha Kappa).
