Fire Technology from Merced College is a Campus Associate Fire Fighting degree that prepares you for a Fire Protection career. Program Description The Fire Technology Program is composed of three goal areas: an Associate Degree and /or Certificate of Achievement, Fire Fighter I Academy, and professional growth. With successful completion of the AA or Certificate program, a fire academy, and possession of an EMT certification, the student will possess the basic qualifications for entry level fire service application at most fire prevention and suppression departments. Career Opportunities Fire prevention and suppression offers many career opportunities including positions in municipal fire departments, county departments, fire protection districts, and California Fire agencies. There are also employment opportunities in correctional institutions, military bases, and numerous federal agencies. Specialists are in demand by industry. For an Associate in Arts in Fire Technology, students must meet the graduation requirements and complete the following required courses with a 2.0 GPA or higher in each class.
