The department achieves this purpose when its graduates acknowledge that earth's natural resources are limited and that human survival is contingent upon sustainable use of these finite resources; contribute to the well-being of humankind and society through knowledge of and experience with the natural sciences; develop a systematic understanding of the natural world through knowledge of and experience in the natural sciences; are prepared to meet the challenges of an ever-changing technological world through an emphasis on problem solving; are prepared to enter a graduate or professional program, or specific employment in their chosen field; meet State Department of Education standards for licensure in the area of biology or chemistry (applies to education majors only).
