Interdisciplinary Studies from McMurry University is a Campus Bachelor Interdisciplinary Studies degree that prepares you for a Science career. The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree is a flexible program allowing students to customize their college degree. It is intended for students who want to obtain broad knowledge through pursuit of three different fields of study. All BIS students complete the regular general education course work but have no traditional major or minor. Instead they complete a set of prescribed courses in each of three different BIS fields of study of their choice, drawn from participating departments from across campus. BIS fields of study must contain at least nine (9) advanced hours of course work. Departments may offer different course groupings for different BIS fields of study. Double majoring is not an option with this degree , nor is selection of a minor or pursuing a double degree. The BIS degree requires two additional courses, which represent a hybrid of the additional requirements for BA and BS degrees: one semester of college language, and one additional course in a lab science or math (1311 or above). BIS students must also complete a capstone course within one of their fields of study. This capstone is intended to foster the integration of the fields of study into a coherent project that demonstrates depth of learning and interdisciplinary connections.
