Fine Arts 3D from Massachusetts College of Art and Design is a Campus Master Fine Art degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. The graduate program in three-dimensional fine arts encourages students to innovate with concept and form using assorted materials and presentation formats. Students in fine arts 3D have the opportunity to work within or across media to create assorted aesthetic objects. Some students employ traditional materials or processes, while others create technology-derived objects that incorporate kinetic, interactive, or robotic elements. Our students find inspiration in Boston's dynamic arts scene, where a multitude of practices co-exist and thrive. Close dialogue among students and faculty is central to the 3D graduate program. Its students meet weekly with professors Judy Haberl or Jill Slosburg-Ackerman for individual and group critiques, field trips, and discussions concerning contemporary issues and professional practice. Faculty advisors work individually with students to develop a plan of study that promotes their full development. In addition, graduate students may select adjunct advisors from among MassArt faculty or artists from outside of the school to review their work on an ongoing basis each term. An exciting visiting artists program and interactions or collaborations with students working in other departments generate unexpected results. Recent and upcoming visitors to the 3D graduate program include Linda Norden, Randall Thurston, Ken Johnson, Heather McGill, Lasse Antonsen, Susan Stoops, Ellen Driscoll, Anne Wilson, Klaus Burgel, Jeffrey Schiff, James Hull, Patricia Berman, Leila Amalfitano, Martha Buskirk, Nancy Shaver, Sam Durant, E.V. Day, John Newman, Bill Arning and Terry Adkins. MassArt's sculptural facilities are industrially scaled and supported by numerous faculty and technicians. Students access extensive metal and wood fabrication facilities, a metal forge and foundry, walk-in ceramic kilns, assorted fiber facilities, hot and cold glass shops, a robotics lab, and state-of-the-art computer and imaging labs.
