Curriculum The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide competence-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the hairdressing industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills. Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multicultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics. To be eligible for MCC graduation, the student must have satisfactorily completed all course requirements. Students completing all of the courses without absences will earn the required 1500 contact hours to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. In the event a student earns less than 1500 contact hours required by the State Board of Cosmetic Arts in these courses due to absences, he/she may enroll in additional electives to earn the 1500 contact hours. Careers Graduates qualify to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. Upon successful passing of the State Board exam, graduates will be issued a license. The demand for cosmetologists far exceeds the number of graduates entering the field. Graduates work in in independent salons, spas, national franchises and independent chains as Hairstylist, Colorist, Nail Technician, and Esthetics Technician.
