When properly presented, a mathematics course encompasses the principles of a liberal arts education using logic, numerical concepts, algebraic and geometric principles, mathematical modeling, and sequential development. Courses in mathematics are offered for the non-major, as well as for the student who plans to major in mathematics . The curriculum is designed to serve the interests and needs of several groups of students, particularly: 1. Those who seek a major in mathematics as background for graduate school or employment (bachelor of science or bachelor of arts); 2. Those who intend to apply mathematics in other disciplines such as the physical sciences, the life sciences, or business and industry; 3. Prospective teachers of mathematics at the elementary or secondary school levels; 4. Those who seek fulfillment of a degree requirement; 5. Those who seek fulfillment of a teaching certificate requirement; and 6. Those who enjoy the stimulation and satisfaction derived from the study of mathematics .
