Communication Studies Communication and Social Influence from Lynchburg College is a Campus Bachelor Public Relations degree that prepares you for a Communications career. Our department is dedicated to enriching the talent and enthusiasm of tomorrow's communication professionals through first-hand experience. Within the Communication and Social Influence Emphasis, students learn how to apply communication theory to real world events. Students also actively engage in effective communication by working directly with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and politicians. Students majoring in this emphasis study why people choose to communicate, the contexts and settings in which they communicate (intercultural, group, organizational, sociopolitical, interpersonal), and the consequences of these interactions. Within the Communication and Social Influence Emphasis, students learn how to craft and deliver effective arguments and to identify structural and ethical problems when they occur in communication. Students also sharpen oral, written, and electronic communication skills. Communication and Social Influence students have the opportunity to polish their presentations and receive feedback from others. By gaining theoretical understanding and perfecting their own communication skills, students become effective professionals in a wide variety of careers.
