The largest degree program at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago is the M.Div. program. If you choose this program, you can expect to have excellent preparation for ministry and teaching in the areas of Biblical Studies, History, Theology and the Arts of Ministry: Preaching, Worship, Pastoral Care and Christian Education. All M.Div. students learn Greek and Hebrew as a way to understand the Bible more deeply. Students also have requirements related to our context taking classes in the areas of Communities of Color, Ethics, World Religions, Interdisciplinary Integrative Seminars, Mission and Leadership. All M.Div. students augment their learning through field education experiences: Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), a supervised internship usually in a hospital setting anywhere in the United States; Ministry in Context (MIC) in a congregation throughout Metro Chicago during the second year of studies; and a full year Internship, typically in a congregation in the United States. The Masters of Divinity Program is for: Persons who are preparing for ordained ministry and for general pastoral and religious leadership responsibilities in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) or in another denomination or ministry setting.
