LMU's Athletic Training Education Program prepares students to join the health care teams that work with professional sports organizations, secondary and postsecondary schools, military branches, sports medicine clinics, and industrial organizations. The curriculum prepares students for the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (BOC) examination, which is required to become a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association as an allied health profession. Certified Athletic Trainers are members of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), and are medical experts in preventing, assessing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. What Do Athletic Training Majors Do? Majors gain proficiency in risk management and injury prevention, pathology of injuries and illnesses, orthopedic clinical examination and diagnosis, medical conditions and disabilities, and acute care of injuries and illnesses.
