In approximately one year you can be prepared to take the Cosmetology state Board Examination to get your license. Cosmetologists have a wide variety of employment opportunities available. This program's content includes, but is not limited to, communication skills, leadership skills, human relations skills and employability skills, safe and efficient work practices, Florida cosmetology law and rules, acquisition of knowledge of cosmetology, nails specialist, facial specialist and their related chemistry, bacteriology, anatomy and physiology, art of makeup, and development of skill in performing the manipulative and electrical techniques required in the practice of cosmetology , nail specialist and facial specialist occupations. This cluster focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the cosmetology industry: planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying technological principles, labor, community, health, safety, and environmental issues. Instruction and learning activities are provided in a laboratory setting using hands-on experiences with chemicals, implements and equipment appropriate to the program's content and in accordance with current practices in the trade. PROGRAM OUTCOMES After successfully completing the program, the student will be able to: Employ safe and proper laboratory practices Perform and identify shampoo/hair conditioner and scalp treatment Identify and perform hair shaping (sculpting and cutting) Identify and perform hair styles and attaching hair Identify and perform hair permanent waving/reconstruction curl/chemical relaxing Identify and apply temporary/semi-permanent and permanent color/bleach and specialty color techniques Perform manicure/pedicure and apply artificial nails/nail wraps Identify and perform facials, manipulation, makeup, hair removal, artificial lash application COSMETOLOGY Demonstrate knowledge of professional development (employability skills) Demonstrate an understanding of entrepreneurship Demonstrate knowledge of Florida law and State Board requirements Demonstrate appropriate understanding of basic science, math and communication skills as related to grooming and salon services CAREER OPPORTUNITIES This program prepares students for employment as licensed hairdressers and cosmetologists.
