Graduates receive an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Nursing Founded in 1883, Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing (LICHSON) is one of the oldest schools of nursing in the United States. LICHSON has a long tradition of teaching excellence and a mission of providing superior patient care. Our graduates assume clinical care and leadership roles in health care facilities throughout the tri-state area. Talented and dedicated faculty provides encouragement and support for students as they complete their rotations in pediatrics, obstetrics, psychiatry, medical surgical, and community health nursing. LICHSON's graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). 1. The regular time frame to complete the AAS degree is two years. 2. Required liberal arts courses are taken at St. Francis College. LICHSON has a liberal transfer credit policy. 3. LICHSON's student body is comprised of thoughtful mature adults who hail from Brooklyn, the New York Metropolitan area, and across the globe many of whom have enjoyed diverse careers prior to attending nursing school. 4. LICHSON's graduates have excellent job placement rates following graduation. 5. LICHSON offers an accessible and affordable education. Many students have completed all of their liberal arts courses prior to enrolling in LICHSON. For students who require only nursing courses, the schedule is compressed to either two or three days a week. Many students continue to work part time while in school. 6. Many of LICHSON's associate degree graduates choose to continue their nursing education for their BSN or Master's degree while working full-time as staff nurses following graduation. Much of this advanced education is often financed through their employer. LICHSON has a strong relationship with St Francis College's upper division nursing program and many of LICHSON's graduates choose St Francis for their BSN.
