The program is intentionally broad and ecumenical, empowering graduates to become leaders in a variety of church-related occupations. Employment opportunities exist within the local church as pastors, student ministry leaders or directors of Christian education; in church extension ministries or parachurch organizations. The curriculum contains a leadership core of classes in servant leadership; transformational leadership; leading groups and organizations; effective church leadership; and conflict, crisis and change. It is further supplemented with coursework in Christian doctrine, church history and electives. Partnership agreements are set up with various other graduate schools and seminaries to encourage further graduate study beyond the master of arts degree . Guided by a caring, competent faculty, students will benefit from the small, interactive class settings and spiritually rich atmosphere. Classes are held in the attractive Sumner Campus Ministry Center and Norma & Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship, which are located next to the towering, nine-story John B. Begley Chapel. Program Distinctions The Master of arts in Christian leadership requires a minimum of 30 graduate hours. An innovative delivery system is employed with classes held either on Monday nights or weekend format (4-9 p.m. CT on Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. CT on Saturday) with a separate final exam. This allows working professionals to attend classes while still being employed full-time. Students commute to classes on the A.P. White Campus from cities such as Nashville, Tenn., Louisville, Ky., and Lexington, Ky. For students with an academic background in Christian ministries, Christian education or religion, it is possible to finish the program within one full year, including summer classes.
