Collision Repair Technology from Lex La - Ray Technical Center is a Campus Certificate Automotive degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. The Collision Repair Technology Program at Lex La-Ray Technical Center prepares students to work in auto body repair and related fields. The shop at Lex La-Ray Technical Center is one of the finest equipped and uses I-Car techniques to repair frame and unibody-unicoupe type cars. It is equipped with the latest in air operated tools including portable grinders, polisher, sanders, drills and the latest in MIG welding and a Pro Spot Plug Welder. The program also carries a national accredited designation-NATEF. Frame and unibody structural repair is accomplished using a Blackhawk Korek pulling system, dedicated benches and a universal measuring system. We also use a wheel force system for suspension and frame diagnosis. Painting and finishing involves the latest techniques and equipment including a Kayco Side Draft paint booth. All types of plastic repair are taught including interior (soft and hand), exterior flexible bumpers, and composite plastics which are part of many new and late model vehicles. All priming and dry sanding operatios are completed in a prep station. Students will have the opportunity to mix paint using Dupont paints or Sikkens paints. We use the latest e-coat primers, sealers and single stage and base/clear urethane topcoats. A 2-year program offering up to four high school credits per year for juniors and seniors.
