Program Mission Statement The mission of the Medical Administrative Assistant program is to prepare people for skilled, innovative and productive careers. Program Goals All Medical Administrative Assistant students will demonstrate proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and earn a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant(CMAA) through the National Healthcareer Association(NHA), National Skill Certificate; i.e. National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) and Pennsylvania Skill Certificates . Program Description This program prepares students to serve on a healthcare team in the administrative role. A Medical Administrative Assistant requires medical knowledge, organizational and business skills, and the ability to meet accepted performance standards of health care workers. The curriculum includes Medical Terminology and Abbreviations, Anatomy & Physiology, Disease Processes, Pharmacology, Law & Ethics, Medical Transcription, Insurance procedures, coding, billing, and collections. Administrative skills include appointment scheduling, phone technique, mail handling, supply ordering, banking duties, computer skills, and many various administrative procedures. The program textbooks are written on a college level, so students need excellent reading skills. Students should have basic computer and keyboarding skills upon entering the program.
