Environmental Horticulture from Lancaster County Career and Technology Center is a Campus Certificate Enviroment degree that prepares you for a Science career. Program Mission Statement The mission of the Floral Design, Greenhouse Management, and Landscaping program is to prepare people for skilled, innovative and productive careers. Program Goals All Floral Design, Greenhouse Management, and Landscaping students will demonstrate proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and earn National Skill Certificates; i.e. National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) and Pennsylvania Skill Certificates . All Floral Design, Greenhouse Management, and Landscaping students will successfully transition on to a first career job and/or related post-secondary training. All Floral Design, Greenhouse Management, and Landscaping students will be proficient in their career major and demonstrate proficiency through hands-on performance and theoretical testing. Program Description This program introduces the student to the various aspect of the Horticulture industry. The three major areas covered are Floral Design, Greenhouse Management, and Landscaping. Students are instructed in the theory and the skills of each of these areas. Floral Design covers the principles of design, various floral designs, plant material identification, and flower shop operations. The Greenhouse Management portion covers the production of various crops, plant nutrition and fertilization, and greenhouse environmental controls. The Landscape part covers plant installation, plant maintenance, design, landscape construction, and plant identification. Instruction makes use of the school's 8,000 square foot greenhouse, retail flower shop and grounds along with off-campus projects such as the Construction Center house.
