Program Mission Statement The mission of the Computer Systems Technology program is to prepare people for skilled, innovative and productive careers. Program Goals All Computer Systems Technology students will demonstrate proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA), earn A+ CompTIA Certification and earn National Skill Certificates; i.e. National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) and Pennsylvania Skill Certificates . Students will also attain AMP Premise Cabling certification for Fiber Optic and Copper, as well as CompTIA's DHTI+ certification for Digital Home Technology . All Computer Systems Technology students will successfully transition on to a first career job and/or related post-secondary training. Students will become proficient in professional presentation skills including interviewing, technical writing, project management, communications and general business knowledge. All Computer Systems Technology students will be proficient in their career major and demonstrate proficiency through hands-on performance and theoretical testing. Program Description Computer Systems Technology includes courses in A+ and DHTI+. In the A+ course, students learn about motherboards, hard drives, IRQs, HEX, BINARY code and troubleshooting in preparation for the A+ Certification exams. In the DHTI+ course, students will learn about Digital Home Theater, Digital Satellite, AV technologies, Home Automation and Home Security technology . Once these courses have been mastered, various vendor specific product certifications may be taken in order to give the student more specific skills such as AMP/Tyco cabling certification. Students acquire an in-depth understanding of the planning, installing, configuring, and maintaining of computer systems. Instruction includes knowledge of server-level hardware implementations, data storage and data recovery. The program follows the standards set forth by CompTIA, AMP/TYCO, and CISCO.
