Political Science from Lambuth University is a Campus Bachelor Public Administration degree that prepares you for a Human Services career. Politics has an influence on almost everything in society ? including how you live your own life ? and Political Science is the study of politics. First and foremost, Political Science is a Social Science. The study of power ? what is it, who has it, how to get it, how to maintain it, how to use it ? is what distinguishes Political Science from other Social Sciences. Not all power is political , but everything political involves power. Students of Political Science learn about governments (our own and others), study how public policy is made, how and why laws are made, and begin to understand how political institutions function. Students of Political Science learn about political culture, about political behavior and about political philosophy. Students of Political Science learn how to study politics and power, scientifically, systematically, rigorously. Lambuth University offers both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science . Our curriculum offers a wide variety of courses on both American politics and International politics. As a program with a strong Liberal Arts foundation, Political Science at Lambuth concentrates on helping students to strengthen vital skills in critical thinking, social scientific analysis, problem solving, conflict resolution and compromise, written and oral communication. Our courses are taught in small class settings which allow close interaction with professors and instructors. Minors in Legal Studies and Leadership Studies are also associated with the Political Science program at Lambuth. For students interested in Political Science as preparation for law school, we offer courses taught by practicing attorneys. We have even offered courses taught by elected officials. In addition to our courses, several extra-curricular academic programs are available for students. Lambuth participates in the state-wide Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL) simulation in Nashville where we have won several elected official positions including TISL Governor and Speaker of the House as well as Outstanding Delegate awards. Our award-winning delegations to the annual Midwest Model United Nations Conference in St. Louis have represented countries as diverse as the United States, the Russian Federation, Norway, Tanzania and Syria. We even have the opportunity for students to organize a Mock Trial team to practice their argumentation skills in the American Mock Trial Association's regional competitions. Lambuth Mock Trial teams have brought home Outstanding Attorney, Outstanding Witness and Team Spirit awards. Lambuth participates in the Tennessee Legislative Internship Program (TLIP) which allows one or two students to become paid interns with the Tennessee House of Representatives for the entire Spring Legislative Session. Other practical internships are also available which in the past have included election campaigns and local non-governmental organizations and interest groups. On campus, Lambuth Political Science majors have been elected President of the Student Government Association (SGA) and are often active in other campus organizations. Exceptional students have the opportunity to join Lambuth's Alpha Epsilon Zeta chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science Honor Society. Lambuth students have presented research at state and local professional conferences. Students majoring or minoring in Political Science at Lambuth have been accepted to and graduated from many law schools including the University of Tennessee, University of Memphis, Cumberland School of Law, University of Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, University of Mississippi and American University, among others. Political Science at Lambuth has helped to prepare students for graduate school (Johns Hopkins, George Washington University, University of Memphis, University of Nevada Las Vegas); college and high school teaching; national, state and local election campaigns; elected offices; the Peace Corps; NGOs; journalism; business; and the military.
