Fire Science Technology from Lake Land College is a Campus Associate Fire Systems Technology degree that prepares you for a Fire Protection career. The associate degree in Fire Science Technology is a two-year program based on a model created by The Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) network of fire science programs. The National Fire Academy has advocated standardizing education for fire fighters and officers across the nation. FESHE's mission is: "to provide and organization of post-secondary institutions to promote higher education and to enhance the recognition of the fire and emergency services as professions to reduce loss of life and property from fire and other hazards." This program will prepare the student for employment in the Fire Service field. The program trains for employment in the Fire Service field. The program trains the student to consider factors such as, building construction, strategy and tactics, fire prevention and investigation. Lake Land College has an articulation agreement with Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and all classes will be transferable with full credit to Southern Illinois University for their Fire Service Management program. The following procedures and prerequisites must be satisfied before admission to the Lake Land College Fire Science Technology Program. The following admission criteria and procedures are in accordance with Illinois law. 1.Admission to Lake Land College 2.Official high school transcript or GED certificate. 3.Satisfactory scores on assessment battery and placement tests. 4.State regulations require Lake Land College to first accept qualified in-district applicants.
