La Salle University's WOCNEP prepares nurses to provide acute and rehabilitative care for people with select disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems. WOC nurses provide direct and consultative care for persons with abdominal stomas, wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers, and incontinence problems. The La Salle University's Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Education Program enables registered nurses who have earned baccalaureate degrees to prepare for and receive initial certification as Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOC) Nurses. La Salle's WOCNEP is fully accredited by the WOCN Society. Standards for Admission Evidence of successful academic achievement in completing a baccalaureate degree in Nursing or other baccalaureate degree. Course work must include: health assessment skills, leadership and management, pharmacology, community health, research/statistics. Evidence of one year of current clinical experience following RN licensure. Current clinical nursing experience within five years prior to application (e.g., current, active practice, completion of a nurse refresher course or a clinical performace examination) Physical capability of performing the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing role. Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania or in the state where the clinical preceptorship is to be done. Current CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certificate Current professional liability (malpractice) insurance Evidence of Health Assessment (Physical) by Physician or Nurse Practitioner Criminal record check clearance Child abuse history clearance Personal Health Insurance Coverage Proof of FBI or State-level fingerprinting Urine Drug Screening Two letters of reference from professors or supervisors.
