The school nurse may practice in school-based, school-linked or collaborative school health programs. This program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Certification as a School Nurse Each student must complete the requirements for school nurse certification. The school nurse certificate will then be issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The program can be completed as part of the BSN degree program with the addition of the four-credit ED 210 theory and practicum (total of 124 credits). The program can also be completed by the student who already holds a BSN or MSN degree. The applicant's transcript will be evaluated and analyzed for congruence with the program objectives and standards set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. If all prerequisites are met, the applicant may then be granted full admission to the program. The program may be completed in eight credits (two courses and two practicum experiences).
