Doctor's degree Accounting from Kent State University at Kent is a Campus Ph.D Accountancy degree that prepares you for a Accounting career. The advising/mentoring program in Accounting prepares doctoral students to become accounting academics through the development of their teaching and research skills. The program supplements students' course and other requirements as students make the transition from accounting practice to the academic world. The Ph.D. coordinator serves as each student's academic advisor until such time as the student chooses another advisor or chooses a dissertation committee chair. The advising/mentoring program begins in the first year when students are typically assigned as assistants in introductory accounting classes. This early development of teaching skills is coordinated with research methods courses and other courses taken by students in the first year of the doctoral program. In the second and third years the advising/mentoring program proceeds in a number of ways. Students are given additional teaching responsibilities and are assigned to faculty members as research assistants. During this time students are taking accounting concentration seminars and other doctoral courses. Students are often invited to work on joint research projects with individual faculty members. Each student's research skills are tested in the third year through a pre-comprehensive examination Ph.D. major project, which involves the preparation of an empirical research paper that is orally presented to the faculty. Students normally sit for the Ph.D. comprehensive examination at the end of the third year in the doctoral program. The advising/mentoring program continues, and in the fourth year of the doctoral program, students are assigned to serve as instructors for upper-level courses (under supervision) to further refine their teaching skills. At this point, students are simultaneously working on their dissertations. View more details on Kent State University at Kent .
