This program helps you acquire the conceptual skills and research tools necessary to understand not only our political system, but also international politics and the cultures, and systems that govern other societies. Furthermore, the program provides experience in applied politics and prepares you to participate as an effective citizen in local, national, and international political institutions and organizations that impact your life. It also enables you to contribute effectively to the public good seen as essential to individual well-being and security in our increasingly diverse society and global economy. THE VALUE OF POLITICAL SCIENCE Those of you who earn a liberal arts degree in political science find opportunities in a wide variety of careers. You may go on to law school or graduate school, or to jobs in law enforcement, business, journalism, environmental consulting, teaching, and public service. Political Science , like its sister fields in the social sciences and liberal arts, should help any student develop reasoning and analytical skills and build competence in oral and written communications. Each semester, the Political Science Department participates in a Open House workshop sponsored by the college. Prospective students meet in person with the chairperson to discuss the opportunities that the department offers its students.
