Automotive Technology from Kaskaskia College is a Campus Associate Automotive degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. The automotive technology curriculum provides the students with technical skills necessary to diagnosis, test and repair today's sophisticated vehicles. Through classroom study of principles combined with "heavy" hands on experience applied to automobiles in the lab, graduates of the program are prepared to assume positions in the automotive industry as entry level technicians . Students entering the program should possess good math skills, the ability to read technical manuals, good communication skills, hand to eye coordination, and be interested in mechanical work. The program also prepares students for the ASE certification exams sponsored by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Students are encouraged to take the specific ASE exams upon completion of related courses. After completion of the Associate in Applied Science Degree , students may elect to transfer to select senior institutions under an advanced placement capstone option to obtain a four year degree. Suggested General Education Electives for transfer will vary; see the automotive coordinator for further recommendations. The instruction, course of study, facilities, and equipment of this program have undergone rigorous evaluation by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation and have met the ASE standards for training program Master Certification. High School graduates of dual credit programs with Kaskaskia College may be eligible for advance placement. Field Internship The AAS Degree has a 160 hour minimum internship requirement in an approved repair facility. Also, the advanced certificate requires a shop practicum or optional internship.
