The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in teaching. This program prepares you to apply for a dual certification in Special Education and one of four additional content areas, with the option of attaining a triple certification through additional fieldwork and an additional 8 weeks of student teaching. In keeping with our core value of experientially-based learning, the M.A.T. program offers an essential and unique fieldwork component. While learning about research-based theories and best practices, you will also observe and apply what you've learned on a weekly basis in K-12 classrooms. Through visits to diverse school settings, you will observe the development of students at different educational levels from primary year through high school. The program prepares you to apply for certification in one of the following areas: Elementary Education and Secondary Special Education Through two student teaching experiences?one in an elementary education setting, and one in a secondary special education setting?you'll be eligible to pursue licensure in Elementary Education and Secondary Special Education. Elementary Education and Elementary Special Education Through one student teaching experience in an integrated setting, you'll be eligible to pursue licensure in Elementary Education and Elementary Special Education. Elementary Education and Elementary/Secondary Special Education Through two student teaching experiences?one in a secondary education setting and one in an integrated elementary special education setting?you'll be eligible to pursue licensure in Secondary Special Education, Elementary Special Education, and Elementary Education. Business Education and Secondary Special Education Through one student teaching experience in an integrated setting, you'll be eligible to pursue licensure in Business Education and Secondary Special Education.
